The Alpaca Wool Company Ltd
The Alpaca Wool Company Ltd is a new joint venture between two well established British Alpaca breeding businesses: Farrlacey Alpacas and Alpacas of Norfolk, with the aim of producing high quality, 100% natural, British Alpaca Fibre and hand knitted Alpaca Wool garments.
Alpaca Fibre
The fibre produced from Alpaca fleece is much finer than that of Sheep's wool, but extremely durable and second only in strength to silk. Alpaca fibre is exceptionally warm with a lustrous, soft feel (called the handle). The number of scales on individual Alpaca wool fibres is considerably lower than that of sheeps's wool, which perhaps explains why people who are allergic to sheep's wool, do not have the same reaction to Alpaca fibre.
Baby Alpaca Fibre
Baby Alpaca fibre is even finer and softer than adult Alpaca fibre and is highly sought after for the manufacture of high quality fashion wear.
The Alpaca Wool Company supplies both adult and baby Alpaca wool and garments. All Alpaca fibre yarn and Alpaca wool products supplied by The Alpaca Wool Company are 100% natural (no dyes are used) and come from carefully selected, British reared Alpacas.
Colour Range
Alpaca fleece comes in 22 natural shades from White to jet Black.
The Alpaca Wool Company currently supplies Alpaca yarn and Alpaca wool garmets in a colour range comprising of 7 of these shades, but with the opening of the Farrlacey Alpacas mini-mill in Autumn 2005, we hope to take fleeces from other selected British Alpaca breeders, which will help to expand this range.
